It’s been 8 days since I planted the first batch of seeds. Today, I am proud to announce that we have successful germination. This round’s grand prize goes to: Arugula. And a fine showing at that. It does not surprise me in the least that the one plant that loves dark, cold days was my mother’s choice. I’m more into the hot pepper/tomato season myself. Better start making those plans to come claim your prize, Mom.
The consolation prize goes to the plant with the single yet determined seedling – green lettuce. There’s a hint of a sprout on the red lettuce side, so I’m giving it a “yes”. Perhaps this affirmation will bolster its confidence.
And wouldn’t you know it? There’s a harsh cold snap headed our way. And while it seems that the cold frame is working, I think the seeds will be spending the next 2-3 nights indoors. Maybe the warm indoor temps will prepare them for the 70 degree temps forecasted at the end of the week.
I planted a separate box today of marigold and nasturtium. The marigold should start coming out in a few days, and the nasturtium in a week’s time. They are both pretty easy going, so I won’t bother charting their numbers. Below is the first week’s update for the vegs and herbs:
