I finished the sofa! Well, as near to finished as it’s going to be for a while.
I finished all the construction bits today with no problems. Then it came to the finish work. Today’s weather was awfully deceiving. It was cool, clear and very breezy. Ideal for being outside. Not so ideal for painting. I was using a latex enamel because it dries quickly and has a nice sheen. Too quickly for today’s breeze, I found. The paint dried nearly on contact, solidifying all the blobs and streaks and globs I’d hoped to smooth out. There was no point in fighting it, so I just left well enough alone. Good news is that it will sand out nicely after it has completely cured in a couple of months. Maybe by then I’ll have the gumption to work on it again.
Oh, and I need to retouch all the rough edges around the trim, and sew the upholstery. Not bad jobs, but definitely ones to save for when I have more energy. I’m pooped.
So, here they are. Sofa and table, a la Moi.
I am testing out the sofa now and am happy to report it is solid and comfy. Good thing, since I have no intention of leaving it anytime soon. It’s just me and MacGyver for the rest of the evening.
Next weekends projects: picture frames, roofing and – hopefully – a little R&R by the lake.
p.s. Please note the fancy wine and the Crab Shack glass. I’m all class.
p.p.s. Please disregard the condition of the floor. Refinishing this floor is WAY down on my to-do list.
