I decided to take a take a new approach with my landscape painting. I spent a bit of time looking up at the mountains this weekend and was, as always, charmed by their subtle beauty. For me, it’s all about the combination of hazy blue hills and fog trapped down in the hollers. I’m not looking for realism here, but I really wanted to reflect this in my painting. I want to paint MY mountains and not just a generic mountain chain.
I’m just showing the top of the reworked and original paintings here because I have no idea where I’m going to take it from here. This may take some time.
Oh, and I discovered the fan brush yesterday. Why have I not been using this all along? It’s like a magic wand for obsessive blenders such as myself.
****I had to give myself a break last week, which means I’m 7 days off my count. When I began this project, I didn’t consider how I’d handle missed days. In the past, I just registered the day as a no-show. But I don’t think this is in keeping with the spirit of the project. I’d rather report 365 days of art, not just tick off days on the calendar. Hence, Day 89.
I love it. You can see the fog — that has to be hard to capture!
Thanks! And I figured out the fog bit totally by mistake. Hey, whatever it takes, right?!
This one brought a lump to my throat. It really is “your” mountains!
Thank you! I’m really happy with how it’s going. This is the first time I’ve every painted anything familiar. And it feels really “right” so far.
Love this! For some reason I have massive problems drawing landscapes, just can’t get the hang of it
Thank you! And as you can probably see, I’m still evolving in this area. I don’t know if I need more detail, less detail, more texture, less, etc…. I’m just going to keep working on it until I figure out what works for me. Fortunately, I love landscapes, so I don’t mind putting in the extra practice.
