Spring Cleaning

It’s been a while since I attacked a large garden project.  The last few growing seasons were marred by downed trees and fallen spirit.  I just closed my eyes and pretended the overgrown flower beds and ever-growing wood piles didn’t exist. But after this past long, cold winter, I desperately needed to get outside.  And I’ve been outside every spare minute since spring arrived.

I can’t remember if I had a landscape plan or not.  In hindsight, I think I just jumped in and let the spirit guide me.  The result so far has been one new walkway, one revitalized walk, one redefined patio,  English Ivy eradication, oodles of new shrubs, and stairs leading to the second level of my backyard (aka New Year’s Project).  My overall goal is to create defined spaces and provide a safe passage through my back yard.  I love how it’s all coming together – so neat and tidy (and I plan to keep it that way). I still have A LOT to do, but I’m powering through while I still have the gumption.  I cannot wait for my summer flowers to fill in all the blank spaces!

    1. Thanks! I’m really happy with my progress. I try not to think about how far I still have to go.

      1. Don’t, because it looks so great now. Look at old photos of your yard!

  1. Good job. I share your sentiment and have been out cleaning up a bit each day since the weather has calmed. Not as much land as you so in some ways an easier task. The first flowers that bloomed really lifted my spirits, and the low bulbs have been coming up slow and steady for the past two weeks. Soon the tulips will open… happy happy days.

    1. Happy days indeed! My bulbs are all gone now and the early summer perennials are beginning to perk up. Once the bachelor buttons come out, I know summer is on its way!
