NaNoWriMo starts in less than 15 hours, and I’m getting just a bit nervous. I’ve tried 3 or 4 times before, and I’ve always lost. Like by a lot. You don’t start this challenge to fail. I want to WIN this time, dang it!
I spent most of the day yesterday reading articles on how to outline and write a novel. There’s not enough time to come up with a solid plan, but there is some good advice out there. Especially regarding outlining. And yes, I know. If you’re a real writer, you’re rolling your eyes at this. But for someone who has never done anything except stream-of-consciousness blogging, it’s pretty critical to have some structure. I’m a bullet-point, task-list kind of girl. I need a crutch.
I haven’t actually written anything yet. [That’s against the rules and I would NEVER break the rules.] But I’m beginning to formulate characters in my mind, and have a basic idea of the beginning and ending. I’d say I’m off to a pretty good start. Time will tell.
