15 Hours and Counting

NaNoWriMo starts in less than 15 hours, and I’m getting just a bit nervous.  I’ve tried 3 or 4 times before, and I’ve always lost.  Like by a lot.  You don’t start this challenge to fail.  I want to WIN this time, dang it!

I spent most of the day yesterday reading articles on how to outline and write a novel. There’s not enough time to come up with a solid plan, but there is some good advice out there. Especially regarding outlining.  And yes, I know.  If you’re a real writer, you’re rolling your eyes at this.  But for someone who has never done anything except stream-of-consciousness blogging, it’s pretty critical to have some structure.  I’m a bullet-point, task-list kind of girl.  I need a crutch.

I haven’t actually written anything yet.  [That’s against the rules and I would NEVER break the rules.] But I’m beginning to formulate characters in my mind, and have a basic idea of the beginning and ending. I’d say I’m off to a pretty good start. Time will tell.essay_writing

  1. You love math and planning. Calculate how many words you need to write each day and just stick with it, even if you think it’s junk. Get the words down, then you can edit later if you want to.

    1. Already there! 1668/day for 30 days. Approximately 750 words /typewritten page. So if I can eke out 2.5 pages a day, I’ll be ahead of the game.
